Koala Action Day

WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

We hope that most members and a number of the general public can join us for this very important day...

Will You Join Us For Our Sunrise on Saturday, 5th June, To Save Koalas?

Our club is organising a small group rally and individual photo/s with #KoalasNeedTrees signs. We invite others from the general public to support this rally and be part of the experience.

Join us for this rally which includes our Saturday morning 7.0km bushwalk. Pay either $5.00 or $10.00 and our club will match your payment dollar for dollar and donate all funds directly to the Nature Conservation Council NSW's 'Save The Koala' Campaign.

Our rally will commence with a bushwalk from National Park Entry Carpark, Ku-ring-gai Chase Road, Mount Colah at 7.30am (Sharp) then will finish with our Koalas Need Trees photos in support of this rally  To book this event, please phone Greg. T: 0409 917 776. Please see further details below.

Saturday 05 June   Sunrise Bushwalk & Save The Koala Rally:
You will definitely enjoy this delighful early bushwalk to freshen up your day. The walk takes you along the plateau along an easy walking trail to Kalkari and returns. Journey through the well established eucalypt forests of this area that once was home to our Australian icon, the Koala. Meet in parking area outside National Park Entrance, Ku-ring-gai Chase Road, Mount Colah for a 7.30am departure. Distance approximately 7.0km. Expected event finish time is around 10.00am. Bookings essential.

While you are on this page you might like to sign the 'Koalas Need Trees' petition. And furthermore, should you have a fluffy Koala, could we please ask you to bring it along on the day to add to the spirit of the campaign.

LET'S DROP THE WIIFM ATTITUDE, THESE LITTLE FELLOWS HAVE NOWHERE TO GO.

If we don't act now, we could lose koalas in NSW forever.

Urgent: Koalas could be extinct in NSW as early as 2050. We can’t let this happen.

Koalas in NSW have nowhere to go. Right now they're losing their homes and their lives to excessive tree-clearing. We need to protect the homes of koalas before they’re gone forever. It's up to us to ensure future generations get to see these iconic Aussie animals in the wild. One minute is all it takes to make a difference for the future of koalas. Will you add your voice today?

International Womens Week:

Let's Celebrate Women - Saturday 13th March 2021
2021 NSW Women’s Week is running from 8th - 14th March. It is run concurrently with International Women’s Week. The theme this year is “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world”.The theme celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future.
PURPLE is a colour most commonly associated with this celebration.
So, to honour the women of the world: mums juggling absolutely everything: women starting a new journey/extending their current one: retired women who are enjoying reflecting, taking the time to recognise how far they’ve come and/or considering what’s yet to be conquered we’re nominating our next event, Saturday 13th March as one to celebrate women.
We all have at least one in our lives who fits into the above categories.
Celebrate the women in our lives - wear
PURPLE Saturday 13th March 2021.

Update: Re Events Up To & Including 14th January 2021

As the current health situation remains a major consideration for all, our club will again cease events for the next seven days, up to and including Thursday 14th January. This decision has come about after consulting the club’s COVID Safety Officers along with Health NSW best advice. We will continue to monitor the situation. It is our hope to return to walking on Saturday16th January! We trust that all our members are well and managing these challenging times. Stay safe and review the NSW Health website for information on the COVID-19 situation.

PLEASE WATCH THIS PAGE FOR FURTHER UPDATES

COVID Update - Masks Mandatory:

From Sunday 3rd January, masks must be worn while shopping, on public transport, in indoor entertainment venues such as cinemas, places of worship, hair and beauty salons and will be mandatory for all staff in hospitality venues. A public health (COVID-19 Mandatory Face Coverings) order has been put in place by the NSW Government. Read more. Mandatory face coverings must be worn in the Central Coast, Wollongong and Greater Sydney Areas whilst visiting indoor areas.

Published 3rd January 2020 - Updated 0945hrs

COVID - Help Avoid Community Transmission:

Although our Government has resisted mandating the wearing of masks, our health experts along with respected health agencies like the World Health Organisation and the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that the public wear masks when there is the chance of local community transmission. To be fair, NSW Health is supportive of masks and strongly encourages their use. It is proven that by wearing masks there is a decrease of COVID transmissions in the vicinity of up to 33 per cent. Are you wearing a mask when you go to crowded venues such as the supermarket? Stay safe, keep in your own space. As they say… Mask it or Casket.

Published 2nd January 2021

IMPORTANT COVID MESSAGE:
Due to the increased COVID situation and for reasons of safety in the greater Sydney area and Central Coast, our club will cease events for a minimum 7 day period effective immediately. After this period we will review the situation further with Health NSW as to recommencement of events.

Important Message From: Australian Conservation Foundation:

Oil Rigs On The Great Barrier Reef? A Dam On The Franklin River?

Without federal oversight, these proposals would have gone ahead.
But while everyone’s distracted by the pandemic, the Morrison Government is trying to rush through disastrous changes to our environment laws.
Last week they introduced amendments into Parliament to hand over approval powers to states and territories. And they want to do it fast, without transparency or scrutiny – before the independent review of our nature law is even complete.

We won’t stand for this. It’s time for national laws that actually protect nature – with an independent regulator to enforce them.
We’ve united with five of Australia’s biggest environment groups to launch a huge advertising campaign the Morrison Government can’t ignore. Our message will be across TV screens, billboards and digital: protect nature before it’s gone.

Watch our hard-hitting ad now before it hits TV screens, billboards and digital ads, then amplify the message by sharing on Facebook.

COVID-19 Update:

Did you know that around the world 11,000 people are reported having COVID-19 each hour.
There are currently over 5,000 people dying from CORONA-19 every 24 hours.
Since the virus first developed, there has been around 650,000 reported deaths and over 16,000,000 people who have been reported contracting the virus.

COVID-19 is the most severe global health emergency that has ever been declared under the International Health Regulations. And, the pandemic continues to accelerate. In the past 6 weeks, the total number of cases has roughly doubled internationally.

A study in the US states that the coronavirus is approximately 13 times more infectious than seasonal influenza, and that even by low estimates, 20% of the US population will become infected by year's end if trends in social distancing continue.

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy

With COVID-19 on the rise again, it’s more important than ever that you stay safe when you go out.

The rules around physical distancing, gatherings and regular hand washing still apply and more so now than in previous weeks; whether you’re shopping, visiting friends or participating in club events. And if you’re sick – please stay at home and get tested.

When out shopping, look for businesses that display the COVID Safe tick. That shows they’ve registered a COVID-19 Safety Plan and are committed to keeping their customers and staff safe.

How to stay COVID Safe

During this pandemic your mental health and wellbeing are most important. Participate in club events on a regular basis by staying connected, exercise, and don’t be afraid to ask for help if needed. If you’re feeling worried there’s assistance and professional services such as ‘Beyond Blue’ (T: 1800 512 348) are available 24/7.

REMINDER: COVID-19 Physical Distancing.

It is vital we learn the lessons from the recent COVID spikes, or we risk seeing many more across Australia, putting in jeopardy much of what we all have worked so hard to achieve in our fight against COVID-19.

An important message I would like to reinforce is, despite our success in combatting COVID-19, we are not at a stage where we can go back to living our lives the way we did before Australia had the pandemic. The virus is still with us, and will be for quite some time — and the international situation continues to get worse, not better.

The spike in Victoria shows just how easy it is for outbreaks to occur if we don’t continue to practise physical distancing and good hygiene, and stay at home when sick. It’s also a reminder of the importance of downloading the COVIDSafe app so health authorities can quickly find close contacts of people confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

Please practice good hygiene and safe physical distancing when attending club events and while in the public domain.

NB. It''s not time to let your guard down or to get complacent about the Coronavirus. In the last 7 days Australia has recorded 654 new cases while worldwide there has been 11.3 million confirmed cases with over a half million deaths.

We remind you to be all COVID safe... And, do the three!

1. Washing your hands as often as possible
2. Keeping your distance where you can; and
3. Downloading the COVIDSafe app.

And importantly, if you’re feeling sick, you need to stay at home and get tested. Let's all stay COVIDSafe and do the 3.
