REMINDER: COVID-19 Physical Distancing.

It is vital we learn the lessons from the recent COVID spikes, or we risk seeing many more across Australia, putting in jeopardy much of what we all have worked so hard to achieve in our fight against COVID-19.

An important message I would like to reinforce is, despite our success in combatting COVID-19, we are not at a stage where we can go back to living our lives the way we did before Australia had the pandemic. The virus is still with us, and will be for quite some time — and the international situation continues to get worse, not better.

The spike in Victoria shows just how easy it is for outbreaks to occur if we don’t continue to practise physical distancing and good hygiene, and stay at home when sick. It’s also a reminder of the importance of downloading the COVIDSafe app so health authorities can quickly find close contacts of people confirmed to have contracted COVID-19.

Please practice good hygiene and safe physical distancing when attending club events and while in the public domain.

NB. It''s not time to let your guard down or to get complacent about the Coronavirus. In the last 7 days Australia has recorded 654 new cases while worldwide there has been 11.3 million confirmed cases with over a half million deaths.

We remind you to be all COVID safe... And, do the three!

1. Washing your hands as often as possible
2. Keeping your distance where you can; and
3. Downloading the COVIDSafe app.

And importantly, if you’re feeling sick, you need to stay at home and get tested. Let's all stay COVIDSafe and do the 3.

More COVID-19 Rules Have Been Relaxed:

Today, (13th June 2020) we have see more COVID-19 rules being relaxed with us easily being allowed to have up to 20 participants in a group under the reaxed guidelines. However, when it comes to social gatherings, there is not a word of advice on it anymore. But, it would appear now that we would come under the new heading of Sport and Recreation. If you would like to read more about the new guidlines for New South Wales, please go here.

Published 13th June 2020

Government Unable to Clearly Interpret Their Own Rules:

A recent reply from our enquiries with Health NSW indicates that bushwalking would probably not be defined as social gathering and that we are not limited by the 10 person rule.

However, sitting around in a park having coffee would probably be construed as social gathering and a limit of 10 persons should be observed. For members safety, we will continue at this time to observe our own COVID-19 rules. That is, 3 meter distancing between walkers and a10 meter distancing rule to be observed between groups where numbers exceed 10.

It would appear that the Goverment's interpretation is based on who reads what and how it is interpreted at the time, hence there could be multiple answers to our question as to what is the maximum number for bushwalking activities and whether we defined as a group or some type of gathering.

It seems like the Government does not know how to define us. Are we an 'individual group', 'a social gathering' ,a 'public gathering' or simply just a gathering? And then, how do you define each of those descriptions! You be the judge.... Read more.

Social Gatherings and The Need for Personal Responsibility:

We need to remind members there is continued need for awareness and continued caution.

As a responsible organisation, we have taken the lead with having safety rules which are at a level that are higher than current Government guidelines. We need to be very cautious about relaxing these measures until we are confident there will not be a major resurgence of cases.

The most important protection for all of us, as we return to our outdoor activities, is for each and every member to show personal responsibility and always practise our new ways of interacting and hygiene. We must all practise our club’s minimum physical distancing. We must be absolutely fastidious with hand and cough hygiene while attending our events, at home and when out in the community. We must all remember to stay home and get tested for COVID-19 if we have even a mild cold or flu-like symptoms.

Members are reminded that in our recent past a single person in the community infected more than 35 others. This virus is very, very infectious.  It will be with us in one way or another for many months to come.

It is not yet time to celebrate, but as we return to some level of normality, the risk of complacency is great. The battle with this COVID virus is far from over. Each and every member must play their part in assisting in reducing the possible spread of this virus.

MyOrg is not in a position to offer advice to members as to their vulnerability. MyOrg encourages each member to seek their doctor’s advice as to how vulnerable they are and what steps they personally need to take to protect themselves. We urge everyone to take this seriously whilst also respecting each member’s decision as to when they participate.

Important Information About Exercising In a NSW National Park During COVID-19

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is working to keep your local national parks open during the COVID-19 pandemic, but as NSW national parks have experienced significant increases in visitors in recent weeks, particularly during weekends, we need your help.

Although we have had to close some facilities, including campgrounds and high-visitation areas (beaches, picnic facilities, busy lookouts) to protect staff and the community, many walking tracks remain open for exercise and we want to keep them that way. We ask that you please comply with the following directives and health measures:

  • In line with the advice of government and health authorities, you are advised to cancel all holiday travel plans to NSW national parks

  • If your planned visit to a NSW national park is for a purpose other than exercise, you should reconsider your plan as you may be in breach of the current public health orders

  • If you wish to exercise in a national park, choose a park close to your home. Visitors are reminded that non-essential travel is currently not permitted

  • If you are unwell, stay at home

  • Practice social distancing

  • If you arrive at a national park or other public space and it is too crowded to practice social distancing, it is your responsibility to leave the area. Please do not wait to be instructed by NPWS or police.

NPWS officers and NSW Police are patrolling national parks to ensure visitors are complying with social distancing measures and other public health orders.

If visitors do not comply with these public health requirements, NPWS may need to close more areas of national parks. If an area closes, it is unlikely we will be able to reopen it until the public health guidelines change.

So please enjoy our NSW national parks, but be sure to exercise care while exercising your body, so we can keep these incredible places open.

Please check the Alerts page before visiting any park, and the COVID-19 page for all related updates.

Corona Virus: (Staying fit at a distance)

How to stay fit and healthy at home

It’s easy to prioritise work commitments, house cleaning and taking care of others during the outbreak, and forget about yourself. Creating a workout schedule for the week is a great way to be motivated and stay on track. Establishing a home workout routine is a safe alternative to going to the gym. Many workouts, including bodyweight exercises and yoga, require little to no equipment. There are many fitness apps and free online resources to help make your home workout more effective and enjoyable.

From Friday 3rd April, anyone attending our events will be required to have their own personal sanitiser plus will be required to wear a mask on arrival and whilst attending the pre and post briefings. Participants will also have their temperature taken on arrival at the event and will not be able to take part should they have a temperature. Each participant will be required to sanitize their hands prior to and after the event plus on the event where required. As COVID-19 advice continues to change we are monitoring the updates closely. Should the Government issue a lockdown for outdoor fitness actvities we will cease our events immediately. Corona Virus Update:

Coronavirus (COVID-19)

At the time of collating our events for the Autumn program, COVID-19 advice has been changing rapidly. At this time the club has chosen to run its event where possible in the hope of keeping everyone fit and healthy to fight this virus should they become infected. Parcticing safe distancing of 1.5m (min) is an absolute must if we are to continue with our events. As the advice from the Government changes, there is a real risk that in the not too distant future the club will have to cancel part or possibly all of its events. We hope in the meantime that this does not come to fruition. Members are encouraged to check this page for further notifications and the Government website for information and the latest updates on COVID-19 and then make an informed decision as to whether to attend or not attend club events.

Corona Virus Update:

What can I do?
If you are sick, stay away from others – that is the most important thing you can do.
You should also practise good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene:
* wash your hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going
to the toilet
* cover your cough and sneeze, dispose of tissues, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser,
* if unwell, avoid contact with others (stay more than 1.5 metres from people).
As well as these, you can start a range of social distancing and low cost hygiene actions now.
These simple, common sense actions help reduce risk to you and to others. They will help to slow
the spread of disease in the community – and you can use them every day – in your home,
workplace, school and while out in public.

Paddle Workshops Help Build Smarter Safer Paddlers:

Paddlers should be reminded that our club goes to great lengths to ensure all paddlers are well educated and are on the same page with the rescuer when it comes to retrieving a paddler after capsize.

Our paddle workshops help you to become a smarter safer paddler. Paddlers who have not undertaken a workshop can often prolong the time it takes to be rescued and may also compromise their safety and that of the rescuer.

As a paddler, you are responsible for your own safety and are expected to take an active role to ensure that you act safely at all times whilst participating in our paddle events.

Don’t compromise your safety or the safety of your fellow paddler. Our paddle workshops are not only educational but also a fun experience on the water.
